Atelier Mondial Residency Oaxaca 2019- A suitcase filled with raw wool from the Valais travelled with me to Oaxaca, Mexico, unknowing what would come of it, yet with the intention to investigate the meaning of handcraft as a tool for expression in the perspective of a highly digitalised time. The encounters with craftsmen, curiosity about native natural dyes and their story have influenced the transformation of the material. The story telling textiles are meant to remind us of important questions and insights that arose during the research process. Their colours which were obtained from Mexican plants and insects such as Cochineal, Indigo or Flor de Muerto is regarded as material and their historical context works as code.
