Felt Time is a hand-felted sculpture that embodies the cyclical nature of time, growth, decay, and renewal. The piece shifts in shape and size through physical activation and interaction, inviting visitors to engage when the sculpture is positioned on the floor. In this space, they are encouraged to find a spot on the piece and participate in a guided meditation led by a caretaker of the work. This meditation prompts participants to reflect on the temporalities of the felt, bringing them closer to the themes of time, change, and connection woven into the materials.
The sculpture is created using vibrant yellows, oranges, and greens from various flowers, alongside the rich reds of madder roots, all applied to the wool according to their harvest seasons. These colors blend and stain each other in certain areas, reflecting the natural overlap of growth cycles. Felt Time not only reflects the temporal qualities of the wool and plants used but also responds to the environments in which it is displayed, evolving through both interaction and location.
